04: Focus on the Center

“The true science of martial arts means practicing them in such a way that they’ll be useful at any time and to teach them in such a way that they’ll be useful in all things.” Miyamoto Musashi, performed by Calm Motivation

One of the most useful aspects of martial arts training is the emphasis on the center, or core muscles, also known in Japanese as the “hara.” Core strength contributes to the effectiveness of leg and body movements, as it is where your legs meet your body. In this episode I briefly go over the development and applications of the core muscles for sports including the different positions in quidditch.

A breakdown of the core muscles and how to develop them in more detail is found at http://www.kwokwingchun.com/training-tips/strength-training-and-martial-arts/abdominal-and-core-muscles/
